Video Tutorial: Crochet Solid Rectangle

The starting length can be any length to adapt to various size afghans.

Foundation: There are two ways to start.

  1. I used the foundation single crochet, with 12 stitches in the video.
  2. You can also use a chain if you prefer. which will be a chain of 13. You will be working around the chain.

Round 1: Chain 3, Work 2 DC in the end stitch. Chain 2, Work 3 more DC in the same end stitch. Work 1 DC in each of the next 10 stitches, Work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC, all in the end stitch. Work 1 DC in each of the next 10 stitches. Work 3 DC in the end stitch. SC in the beginning stitch to join.

Round 2: CH 3, Work 1 DC in the same space below. Work 1 DC in each of the next 3 DC, In the corner, work 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC all in the same space. Work 1 DC in each of the next 16 DC, In the corner, work 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC all in the same space. Work 1 DC in each of the next 3 DC. In the corner, work 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC all in the same space. Work 1 DC in each of the next 16 DC. Work 2 DC in the next space, SC to join with the beginning stitch.

Round 3: CH 3, Work 1 DC in the same space below. Work 1 DC in each of the next 7 DC, In the corner, work 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC all in the same space. Work 1 DC in each of the next 20 DC, In the corner, work 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC all in the same space. Work 1 DC in each of the next 7 DC. In the corner, work 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC all in the same space. Work 1 DC in each of the next 20 DC. Work 2 DC in the next space, SC to join with the beginning stitch.

Continue on making your rectangle as large as you want it to be. It will continue to get larger as long as you are adding the 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC in the corner. If the edges start to wave, you may be crocheting to loosely. If your corners start to curl up, you may need another stitch in the corner so you can modify to a 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in your corners.
